Activity #2: Professional / Academic Writing Genre
1. We provided language feedback on your work / school writing samples. Really great job! But, there were some common language errors.
2. With a partner, look at the common errors and try to fix them.
3. Then, look at your own paper and try to fix your errors.
4. Are there any volunteers who would like to share what they did?
Activity #3 - Ted Talk Public Speaking
1. You will be paired up with another classmate. Listen to all the speeches carefully, but pay particular attention to your partner's speech. You will be giving him or her feedback - 2 things you liked, and 1 thing to improve. What are some elements of effective public speaking that we have discussed?
2. Recall the Ted Talk that you listened to for homework. You may use your phone to review parts of the talk if necessary, but try to use your memory. Focus on the main ideas. Take 10 minutes to prepare a short speech. You may summarize if you wish, but it may be interesting to focus on your own ideas and opinions about the subject.
3. Present your speech. 5 minutes total, including 1 or 2 minutes for questions (although we can be a bit flexible)
4. Write your feedback on a card for your partner. Switch cards, read the feedback and discuss (5-10 mins).
5. Optional: Incorporate your peer's feedback and preform the speech again via Google Voice (you may not be able to record the entire thing). I will give you some feedback via text message,
