Today's Goals:
To practice writing and providing peer feedback; to discuss chapter 4 of A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan; to practice listening to podcasts.
Agenda:
1. Practice speaking and review material from last week by doing line interviews.
2. Write a short essay related to the Unit theme of “Wanderlust” and provide peer feedback
3. Discuss major themes from chapter 4 from the Goon Squad by drawing a story map.
4. Practice listening skills by listening and discussing an excerpt from the Planet Money podcast.

Activity #1 - Line Interviews
1. Stand up and form 2 lines facing each other.
2. Discuss for 3 minutes:
What did you do this weekend?
3. Line one - move one person down. Line two - stay in place.
4. Discuss for 3 minutes:
What did you learn last week?
5. Line one - move one person down. Line two - stay in place.
6. Discuss for 3 minutes:
Look at this excerpt from a New York Times article. What do you think the underlined and capitalized word means? Hint: use the sentence context and break the word apart.
WANDERLUST may be encoded in his DNA. “If it’s in your blood, it’s impossible not to think the grass is maybe greener elsewhere,” Mr. Doig said. “Everything seems temporary. I went to nine different schools and never lived in a house for more than three years growing up.”
Activity # 2 - Writing and Peer Feedback
1. Read the bolded, underlined topic headings ONLY and choose one that seems interesting.
2. Read the rest of the question under your selected topic.
3. Discuss both YOUR topic and YOUR PARTNER'S topic briefly. (10 mins)
4. Write a short first draft of an essay on your topic. There are no right answers, only opinions. You will have a chance to rewrite on Wednesday, so relax and get your ideas going. (10 min)
5. Switch essays with your partner - read your partner's essay and provide feedback with the peer feedback form provided. (15 min)
6. Discuss your feedback with your partner briefly. (5 min)
