Activity #3 - A Visit from the Goon Squad - Preview of Chapter 4
Step 1 - Quote Predictions
1. Discuss with your partner: What are some of your favorite trips you’ve ever been on? Do you have a memory from a childhood trip that is particularly vivid? What can we learn from travel?
2. Each team has 6 key quotes from Chapter 4. These have been selected for their vocabulary, grammar and meaning, and are posted in the word document below. Discuss the quotes with your team. Try and figure out any vocabulary from the sentence context, and double-check with a dictionary. We haven't read yet, so there is no way to know what these quotes mean for sure, so make some GUESSES and PREDICTIONS about what the quote means, and how it relates to the chapter.
3. Pair up with someone from the opposite team to share your team's discussion. What do you think will happen in this chapter? What could the theme be? Who are the main characters? Remember, these are just educated guesses - there's no way to tell for sure until you read!
4. Share your predictions with the class on the doc cam - I will post these ideas to the website.
Step 2 - Skimming to Learn More
1. Remember our technique of "skimming" for main ideas. Skim your assigned section, looking for big ideas. (5 min)
2. Discuss your section with your partner. (5 min)
4. With your partner, make up 6 questions for another team to answer. These questions can be SPECIFIC, with correct answers ("Who is Lou's daughter?") or OPEN-ENDED, answered with opinions ("Do you think Lou and Rolph get along?")
5. Rotate to the next team's station and do your best to answer the questions.
6. Rotate around the room to read the posters. I will post them to the website.
