Writing Portfolio Guidelines and Resources
The goal of the writing portfolio is to showcase student writing samples from throughout the semester and allow opportunities for self-reflection and interaction between students and instructors.
Your writing portfolio should contain a rough draft and revision of ONE of the following essays:
1. What Makes an American? essay
2. Wanderlust essay
3. Presentation proposal
Your writing portfolio should contain BOTH of the following:
1. Six Word Memoir
2. Revision of 1 Goon Squad story map
Although it is not required, you may also choose to include additional documents such as:
1. Resume / CV
2. Cover letter
3. Work / academic writing sample
4. Etc.
In addition to the writing assignments, you will also include a short self-reflection essay (1-2 pages typed) about your writing and learning process during the semester. This is your chance to think about your learning during this course. In your self-reflection, you may want to consider the following questions:
1. Consider your first and second drafts of each assignment. What did you change? Why?
2. Which assignment do you feel represents your very best work from this class and why?
3. What has been your greatest area of improvement in writing this semester?
4. What aspects of your writing would you like to work on in the future?
5. Etc.
We will have 2 workshops in class to work on your writing portfolios (Monday and Friday).
Your final portfolio is due on or before Wednesday, December 3, 2014. You may submit your writing portfolio manually (paper) or digitally (email).
Good luck! Have fun! And let your teachers know if you have any questions.
